About BRAC:
BRAC, one the largest Non-Governmental Development Organization in the world, working in a number of countries in Africa and Asia on poverty alleviation Programs, is registered in Uganda as BRAC Uganda. The organization implements integrated development approach combining Education, Health, Agriculture, Livestock, Adolescent Empowerment, and Micro finance.
Job Summary: The Research Associate  will support BRAC operations in  its "Innovative, Integrated Approach to Smallholder Family Nutrition" study. The study is a randomized evaluation that aims to assess the impact of nutrition pilot project funded by the World Bank, focusing on the impacts of nutrient-rich crops on the nutritional status of women and children. The job holder will work under the Program Manager of Research and Evaluation and collaborate directly with senior staff at the World Bank. The study is being conducted in four BRAC branches in Southwestern and Central Uganda, namely: Lukaya (Kalungu district), Kyotera (Rakai district), Ibanda (Ibanda district), and Kabwohe (Sheema district).
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Assisting in planning and implementation of the randomized control trial.
  • Supervising data collection in the field and ensuring data quality.
  • Tracking attrition and drop-out cases.
  • Assisting in recruitment and training of enumerators. .
  • Responsible for data coding and cleaning.
  • Assisting in quantitative data analysis and report writing.
  • Assisting with management of a team of field supervisors and enumerators.
  • Working closely with the BRAC program staff to monitor the implementation of the project in the field to ensure compliance with research protocol.
  • Communicating with BRAC program heads and World Bank staff.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Programme Manager Research & Evaluation.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The suitable candidate must hold a good Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in economics, development studies, statistics, public health,
  • Two or more years’ experience in project evaluation.
  • Strong quantitative research skills, including coursework in statistics (econometrics preferred)
  • Computer literacy skills i.e. Proficiency in data analysis using STATA; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Excellent English grammar in written communication.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage deadlines and produce high quality output.
