POSITION DESCRIPTION:
AFRIpads (U) Ltd. seeks an experienced, highly qualified Project Coordinator (PC) to manage the Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) Project in Lira, a multi-year public-private partnership (PPP) with Plan Uganda. The PC is responsible for developing and managing a network of AFRIpads sales agents to improve rural access to cost-effective feminine hygiene. The PC will work in close cooperation with Plan Uganda’s Lira Program Unit Area, while reporting directly to the country directors of AFRIpads Ltd. The position is based in Lira and is 75% field-based and 25% desk-based. The PC will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to this innovative public-private partnership to accelerate sustainable delivery of feminine hygiene products and services in Lira.

BACKGROUND TO THE MHM PROJECT WITH PLAN UGANDA
In partnership with Plan Uganda, Plan Australia, Plan Netherlands and AFRIpads, a four year project on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) is being implemented in Tororo and Lira districts. The project seeks to address the Menstrual Hygiene Management needs of Ugandan schoolgirls and women, and to develop models for working with Village Savings & Loans Associations (VSLA) to create awareness and increases access to affordable, reusable sanitary pads, while at the same time presenting income generation opportunities through dealership opportunities.

Micro-Enterprise Development
• Recruit, train and support AFRIpads dealers from VSLA groups to create micro-enterprise opportunities and to increase local access to AFRIpads Menstrual Kits. Use Plan Uganda’s standards as the model and guidelines.
• Sensitize VSLA groups on the MHM project and skilfully recruit and train strong dealer candidates
• Strengthen the business capacity/acumen of participating AFRIpads dealers to develop and manage AFRIpads enterprises as an Income Generating Activity (IGA) through coaching and mentoring
• Recruit, train and support AFRIpads dealers from VSLA groups to create micro-enterprise opportunities and to increase local access to AFRIpads Menstrual Kits. Use Plan Uganda’s standards as the model and guidelines.
• Sensitize VSLA groups on the MHM project and skilfully recruit and train strong dealer candidates

• Design and implement creative, locally-appropriate marketing and communication strategies with demonstrated, measurable gains in brand visibility and product sales
• Oversee procurement from AFRIpads Ltd. in Kampala, stock management in Lira, and stock supply for participating dealers to ensure overall stock is balanced against sales and revenue.
• Coordinate with the COO and production team on quality assurance, consumer feedback, and product research and development on existing and new products
• Support AFRIpads overall sales and company objectives to drive growth and impact
• Exceed sales and program targets for Lira District
• Design and implement product trainings and sales/marketing workshops for dealers to increase sales capacity and volume

• Develop and submit quality and timely project reports based on the key project indicators and reporting formats as required by the donor and Plan.
• Develop and implement a system for capturing, documenting and disseminating project experiences on development of an AFRIpads business model, sanitation marketing, achievements, lessons learned and best practices to stakeholders (M&E)
• Establish and maintain appropriate working relationships with the major partner, Plan, as well as with government, civil society organizations, institutions, and other key stakeholders
• Work closely with the Plan Uganda MHM Project Coordinator (Tororo) and Project Coordinators (Tororo and Lira), the AFRIpads Project Coordinator (Tororo) and AFRIpads Ltd. staff to achieve and exceed key project targets and performance indicators
• Maintain diligent, accurate records and administration of all sales-related activities, including daily, weekly, and monthly reporting, in addition to quarterly and annually reports.

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in microfinance, business, administration, sales and marketing, development economics, entrepreneurship or related fields
• At least 3 years in direct implementation of rural sales and marketing OR microfinance (village banking) OR microenterprise development activities, desirably among women’s groups
• Knowledge of Ugandan microfinance sector guidelines/standards on microenterprise and business development for especially rural communities
• Knowledge of WASH/health promotion in schools and sanitation marketing
Education & Work Experience
