Job: Sales & Marketing Manager

AFRIpads Ltd. is a fast-growing social enterprise in Uganda that manufactures reusable (washable) cloth sanitary pads as a cost-effective feminine hygiene solution for the millions of women and girls in East Africa. AFRIpads Menstrual Kits are an innovative feminine hygiene solution that is simultaneously hygienic, affordable and environmentally-friendly. Creating social impact is paramount to AFRIpads’ business objectives, with particular emphasis placed on curtailing the high rates of menstrual-related absenteeism among schoolgirls in the region. Headquartered in Kampala and with a manufacturing facility in southwestern Uganda, AFRIpads currently employs over 65 staff between both locations. Recognized by Women Deliver as “One of the 50 most inspiring ideas and solutions delivering for women and girls worldwide”, AFRIpads is gaining international attention in the social enterprise arena for its impact on over 230,000 value-conscious consumers at the bottom of the pyramid.

AFRIpads (U) Ltd. seeks an experienced, highly qualified Sales & Marketing Manager (SMM) to oversee and drive all sales operations in Uganda. The position is based in Kampala, but frequent sales-related travel in Uganda is required (approx. 50%). The position reports directly to the country directors and is responsible for the direction, support and growth of AFRIpads’ sales and marketing activities in Uganda and beyond. The SMM oversees the sales department, manages relationships with customers and partners, and liaises with CSOs, government, and other key stakeholders. The SMM will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to the development and expansion of the department, while contributing to organization-wide strategy as a key member of the management team. The ideal candidate is a firm advocate of women and gender issues in development.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
Management
• Manage a growing sales team that delivers and supports nation-wide product sales. Must be able to build a strong team with increasing capacity and outputs.
• Develop and oversee processes and management systems for sales department to deliver strong analytical reporting and inform new, evidence-based strategies and programs.
• Contribute to organization-wide strategy and drive AFRIpads towards financial sustainability, as a key member of the management team.
• Enrich AFRIpads’ organizational culture and high-impact business model through inspirational and innovative leadership
Sales & Marketing
• Manage sales department, with focus on direct sales and development of distribution channels and nationwide points of sales to achieve growth in this key market segment
• Successfully manage and support existing customer base, partners, and relationships
• Oversee and support sales and partnership inquiries
• Drive new business development and seek innovative approaches to capture new market opportunities and exceed sales/revenue targets
• Design and implement product trainings and sales/marketing workshops for sales department and product dealers/distributors to increase capacity and output
• Liaise with COO to develop effective, lowest-cost supply chain and distribution system for direct consumer sales
• Coordinate with the COO and production team on quality assurance, consumer feedback, and product research and development on existing and new products
• Design, implement, and oversee targeted marketing efforts across diversified market segments. Must be capable of developing creative, regionally appropriate campaigns that yield maximum impact and ROI.
• Develop and implement effective communication strategies to raise the company and brand profile with demonstrated, measurable gains in the product and brand visibility.
• Liaise with government, civil society organizations, institutions, businesses, and other key stakeholders
Reporting & Administration
• Maintain diligent records and oversee administration of all sales department activities, including management of department-wide daily, weekly, and monthly reporting, in addition to quarterly and annual reports, and funding, program, and strategy proposals
• Ensure rigorous financial management, regulatory compliance, accurate and timely reporting
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Education & Work Experience
• Bachelor’s degree from a credited university in business, sales, marketing, entrepreneurship, international development, or related fields and at least five years of sales and marketing experience in a management role, with demonstrated increase of responsibility OR Master’s degree in the above
mentioned fields with at least 3 years of sales and marketing experience in a management role, with demonstrated increase of responsibility.
Core skills
• Proven sales management experience as demonstrated by strong growth of company sales and business development
• Excellent leadership skills. Must be able to develop and motivate a team through inspirational leadership and innovative coaching.
• Demonstrated experience in sales, marketing, customer service, project management, public relations
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to interact professionally and with sensitivity amongst culturally diverse staff and customers and contacts
• Proven ability to build and maintain strong, professional working relationships with colleagues, clients, partners, and other key stakeholders
• Proven ability to strategize, organize, and deliver a customized, targeted sales pitch to a broad spectrum of potential customers across diversified market segments
• Experience presenting to groups and leading effective workshops/trainings
• Ability to act independently and proactively, while exercising maturity, resilience and good judgment
• Exceptional organizational skills with an emphasis on detail and team management
• Mastery of English with excellent command of the language, both written and oral
• Highly experience in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SEO and social media
Additional skills
• Flexibility with shifting priorities and competing demands in a fast-paced and challenging work environment
• Willingness to work flexible hours (including periodic evenings and weekends) and to travel within Uganda for work (30%)
• Experience in Salesforce or other CRM software is a major asset
• Experience in graphic design, social media campaigns, and SEO are major assets
• Commitment to the company’s mission and objectives, with a keen interest in social enterprise and the desire to empower and enable value-conscious consumers through a high-impact, BOP-oriented business

PACKAGE
AFRIpads (U) Ltd. is offering a competitive compensation package and a 1-year contract with potential for performance-based contract renewal
