Job Summary: The Principal Legal Officer will be carrying out research, provide legal advice, draft and review legal documents and represent the Centenary Bank in courts of law in accordance with the law, bank policies and procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Represent the Bank in Courts of law, monitor the progress of court cases and provide regular feedback on the performance of external legal counsel with regard to cases in his/her portfolio.
  • Institute legal action to safeguard the Bank’s interests, and respond to customer complaints in form of notices of intention to sue in a timely manner.
  • Review and/or draft documentation for credit facilities offered by the Bank to its customers in line with the relevant laws, regulations, Bank policies and procedures.
  • Advise on all legal and appropriate action for efficient and effective recovery of non-performing credit facilities.
  • Draft and draw service level agreements and contracts for the Bank’s procurement and disposal of goods, services and works in line with its policies and procedures.
  • Carry out legal research and provide legal advice on issues related to the Bank’s business, compliance with existing and upcoming legislation, and on the implications of such legislation for the operations of the Bank.
  • Offering prompt legal advice to the branches and various head office functions as and when required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The Principal Legal Officer should ideally possess an Honors Bachelor of Laws degree from a recognized university; postgraduate diploma in legal practice.
  • At least four years’ post enrolment relevant experience preferably in a financial institution, an established law firm or reputable commercial organization.
  • Excellent drafting, writing and communication skills;
  • Good analytical skills
  • Ability to provide sound, efficient, effective legal advice and to execute various tasks at the same time.

Job Summary: The Account Manager will be responsible for the;
·         Overall management of accounts within your portfolio, assigned by the Area Head GSAM, East Africa. 
·         Ensure that for designated account, all risks are properly identified and assessed 
·         Ensure that designated accounts have action plans which are formulated and implemented so as to minimize risks, prevent losses, maximize recoveries and restore profits through rehabilitation, workout, direct recovery actions and legal processes. 
·         Improve early identification of problem debt, by development of a proper process environment encouraging open and up front reporting from Relationship Managers

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  • The job holder will be responsible for the protection of the Standard Chartered Bank’s interests in, by taking appropriate restructuring or recovery actions (by means of direct representation and negotiation). 
  • The protection of the Standard Chartered Bank’s reputational interests. 
  • To assume responsibility for specific accounts within your designated portfolio. 
  • Evaluate the credit risk on applications within your portfolio as required and to recommend approval, decline or alternative appropriate courses of action. 
  • Responsibility for minimizing the Standard Chartered Bank’s risk arising from litigation, environmental claims, regulatory censure, or potential reputational loss regarding the impaired Accounts. 
  • Encourage the Standard Chartered Relationship Managers towards early reporting of potential problem debts. 
  • Keenly track and provide information to the Area Head, GSAM E. Africa on the cause of losses, encourage the development of improved Credit Skills. { i.e. : Operation loss, Monitoring and Control, Credit Risk Assessment } 
  • Ensure you remain alert to the risk of money laundering and assist in the Bank’ efforts in combating it by adhering to the key principles in relation to: identifying your customer, knowing your customer, reporting suspicions, safeguarding records and not disclosing suspicions to customers. 
Key Performance Indicators: 
·         The overall performance of the Standard Chartered Bank by minimizing losses, and reducing the Bank’s exposure together with the restructuring of the Portfolio through the exit of non-core accounts. 
·         Continual improvement of standards of risk management, a higher quality of lending, an enhanced return on assets, an overall reduction in the level of Impaired Accounts.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • The candidate must have attained tertiary academic qualification and/or extensive practical know-how in accounting, finance and banking practice and theory.

  • When selling loans to the Barclays Retail prestige customers, complete the financial analysis and statement review on customer accounts. Where customers do not meet the minimum criteria, advise the customer, verbally or in writing as the customer requires. Report such denials to the Branch Manager on a daily basis.
  • Call customers when their accounts have been opened, generate welcome pack letters and send to customers to aid in the growth of the Barclays brand and presence.
  • The Barclays Personal Banker will also ensure accuracy of each new account application, loan document, Barclaycard application and bank account mandate change. The Personal Bankers are held personally accountable for accuracy and quality of these and supporting documents that they complete and submit.
  • Achieve operational rigour excellence in all aspects of procedures and processes personally undertaken to ensure green audit.
  • Follow the Retail end to end account opening ensuring new accounts are authorized and KYC compliant. Escalate any items that exceed the agreed service level time lines or where there are unresolved KYC requirements, to the assigned Branch Manager.
  • Comply with all general Barclays operational risk & rigour requirements e.g. KYC and anti-money laundering regulations.
  • Occasionally, lend a hand to the Branch Manager to open and close cashier tills at the beginning and end of each day.
  • Carry out as assigned by the Branch Manager.
  • Own customer queries and complaints around account opening, loans and card applications and resolve in a timely manner. Escalate any unresolved queries, or queries not resolved in a short period of time to the Barclays Prestige Branch Manager.
  • Build and grow relationships with internal service providers (Operations and KYC Helpdesk) to ensure a quick turnaround time of escalated queries and complaints.
  • Direct customers to the appropriate delivery channel to meet their needs e.g. cashiers, drop boxes, ATM etc.
  • Advise the Barclays customers as soon as cheque books, cards and other account items are ready for collection. Follow up with customers that have not collected the items within a reasonable time.
  • Advise customers as soon as new loans are approved and encourage draw-downs on the new loans.
  • When the Barclays branch is busy walk the queues- resolve quick inquires and direct customers to the correct counters.
  • Restocks merchandising materials (pamphlets, forms) in the  Branch and advise the Branch Manager if supplies are running low.
  • Together with the Barclays Branch Manager, open and close Prestige Cashier tills at the beginning and end of each day.
  • Authorise cashier transactions above their teller limits.
  • Act as cash custodian for the Prestige Branch. This involves checking cashier cash levels throughout the day, restocking cashiers or repatriating excess funds, and reordering cash from the external provider based on daily limits as set out.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Sales to Retail Customers (60%)
  • Strategy & Direction –Own and embed strategy, and provide direction to the team.

2. Operational Rigour and Compliance with KYC Requirements: 20%
  • Ensure accuracy of each new loan application, loan document, Barclaycard application and bank account mandate change. Telesales Staff are held personally accountable for accuracy and quality of these and supporting documents that they complete and submit.
  • Achieve operational rigour excellence in all aspects of procedures and processes personally undertaken to ensure green audit.
  • Follow the Retail end to end loan processing ensuring proper authorization and compliant with policy held.
  • Escalate any items that exceed the agreed service level time lines or where there are unresolved requirements, to the Product Manager-Assets
  • Comply with all general Barclays operational risk & rigour requirements e.g. KYC and anti-money laundering regulations.
  •   Conduct snap checks as allocated by the Product Manager-Assets
3. Provision of Customer Service (10%)
  • Own customer queries and complaints around account opening, loans and card applications and resolve in a timely manner.
  • Escalate any unresolved queries, or queries not resolved in a short period of time to the Team Leader Sales or Manager Telesales.
  •  Build relationships with internal service providers (COO, RISK, and Retail Support) to ensure a quick turnaround time of escalated queries and complaints.
  • Direct customers to the appropriate delivery channel to meet their needs e.g. cashiers, drop boxes, ATM etc.
  •   Ensure timely escalation to Customer Service Support Staff on any key requirements, & Service
  • Ensure quality & efficient Customer service is embedded at the Centre through coaching, training & feedback.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • The PR Officer will be planning publicity strategies and campaigns for Tropical Bank
  • He / she will also be mandated to write and producing presentations and press releases

  • Organizing promotional events such as press conferences, open days, exhibitions, tours and visits
  • Speaking publicly at interviews, press conferences and presentations
  • Providing clients with information about new promotional opportunities and current PR campaigns progress
  • Analysing media coverage of the Bank
  • Commissioning or undertaking relevant market research
  • Working in collaboration with clients, managerial and journalistic staff about budgets, timescales and objectives

About Project:
This project offers motivated interns the opportunity to gain hands-on micro-credit and business training experience to kick-start a career in international development. The organisation you will be working for was set up over two years with the aim of encouraging growth in rural communities. Micro business loans are given to single mothers or widows to start income-generating businesses, which helps them rise out of poverty and create positive living conditions for themselves and their families.

The project finds community members who are not working, trains them in basic business management skills and gives them micro-loans to start a business of their choice. The members are put in a group of six who are meant to support each other in finding solutions to the challenges facing their businesses. For the cooperative business projects the members are encouraged to work as a group towards the creation of one product or service, such as a cooperative bakery.

Since its inception the project has assisted over fifteen individual female-led rural households. In addition, over twenty households have benefited from a co-operative piggery project. The organisation is currently working on a 30 member co-operative solar bakery project that will be located on an isolated island in Lake Victoria. This is an ambitious and growing project and your contribution can help make a tangible difference in poor communities.

Job Summary: The Intern will be tasked to work with our local staff to hold meetings with the micro-loan members, visit and assess progress of their businesses, and discuss business challenges and solutions. In addition, he/she will assist in the identification of skills which may be required for the better running of their businesses, assess other women's groups that may benefit from the project, and raise awareness of the projects aims.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • The Intern will be assisting in programmes that provide credit assistance for self-help savings, sound banking policies for the poor, and revolving funds for those in need.
    He /she will also be coordinating meetings and training sessions for NGOs which assist poor communities to build up savings, credit and form linkages with banks.
  • Offering support to village self-help groups to independently develop financial institutions to manage profit-making programs and activities.
  • The Intern will be creating workshops to introduce the concept of micro-credits and micro-finance to new communities.
  • Elaborating business plans and facilitate access to micro-credit by working with local communities.
  • Offering administrative support.
You will also get to share your time with the HIV/AIDS education project. This involves educating the women about the various ways of preventing the spread of HIV, mobilising them for HIV testing, giving out free condoms and encouraging them to pass the information on to their male family members and partners.

You will be met at Entebbe international airport in Kampala by a project representative and taken to the project location to begin your placement, after a full orientation to Kampala.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  The applicant should exhibit high enthusiasm and interest in working in the micro finance sector
You will stay in accommodations near to the project, which you will share with other participants during your stay.
You will have access to a fully equipped kitchen and clean bathroom.

Barclays Africa serves its 2.8m customers through a network of 573 branches and service centres providing a variety of traditional financial products including retail mortgages, current and deposit accounts, commercial lending, unsecured lending, credit cards, treasury and investments.
Job Summary: The Barclays Sales Manager will primarily sell Barclays Africa Retail business products to walk-in customers to the branch, actively go out and recruit new customers. He/she will support Local Business Development managers during the account opening process for new business and cross sales. 
Key Duties and Responsibilities:   
1. New Business Development 50%
  • Increase product penetration for the customers under management by reviewing their portfolio to determine potential cross sells and proactively recommend new products to customers.
  • Create customer proposals based on the needs analysis and follow through the sales process.
  • Refer to the relevant product area for specialist product help or advice (e.g. Asset Finance) when uncertain about the product delivery or application process. Respond directly to customers with the details.
  • Achieve agreed sales targets for new accounts, cards, assets and liabilities, through a proactive calling program to Business Club customers.
  • Carry out regular face-to-face customer visits and arrange focused social events and individual entertainment.
  • Recruit new customers into the Business Club and manage the Business Club relationship once they become members. This includes following up on outstanding club fees, providing input to seminars and trips arranged for customers, and ensuring a high level of customer retention in the club.
  • Interface with the Business Club Coordinator during the event planning for monthly or bi-monthly events including providing the invitation list, the theme for the event and identifying potential speakers.
  • When customer wish to exit the Business Club, conduct exit interviews to determine the reasons for departure and feed these back to the Business Development Manager.
  • On a regular basis, interface with the Vehicle and Asset Finance team, to ensure that product knowledge is kept up to date and that all opportunities are followed up.
  • Update the customer database with customer demographics.
  • When interfacing with business owners, identify potential opportunities for the owners to become Prestige or Premier Customers and ensure that leads are passed on the Affluent Segment for follow-up.
  • Arrange introductions for the Premier or Prestige team where appropriate.
  • Continuously monitor utilisation of credit facilities.
  • Identify and resolve under-utilisation by contacting customers to determine the reasons and escalating service issues.
  • Review the local media to identify potential target market customers.
  • Manage own calling programmed, including identifying names to call on in a particular month and setting up the meetings.
  • Get advice from the Business Development Manager if required.
  • On a monthly basis, compile a report on the calling programmed for the month and personal sales progress against the targets as agreed. Present the report to the Business Development Manager.
  • Participate in product campaigns that apply to Small and Medium Enterprises by ensuring that the products are explained to customers.
  • Conduct a detailed needs analysis for potential customers to determine which products would suit their business requirements.
2. Relationship Building   20%
  • Increase product penetration for existing customer base by reviewing their portfolio to determine potential cross sells and proactively recommend new products to customers. Business Customer Advisors are expected to service a portfolio of up to 1000 customers.
  • Update the customer database with customer demographics.
3. Compliance / KYC   20%
  • Complete account opening documentation together with customers and submit to the Branch Manager or Team Leader for final review before submitting to operations for processing. Business Customer Advisors are however held personally accountable for accuracy and quality of these and supporting documents that they complete and submit.
  • Achieve operational rigour excellence in all aspects of procedures and processes personally undertaken to ensure green audit.
  • Follow the end to end account opening ensuring new accounts are authorised and KYC compliant.
  • Escalate any items that exceed the agreed service level timelines or where there are unresolved KYC requirements, to the Business Development Manager or Branch Manager or Head Of SME..
  • Comply with general Barclays operational risk & rigour requirements e.g. KYC and anti-money laundering regulations.
  • Conduct snap checks as allocated by the Business Development Manager.
  • Sign customer contracts on behalf of the bank once the contents have been agreed by all internal parties in accordance with current procedures.
  • Approve manual transactions sent by customers to the branches prior to the payments being released.
4. Risk Interface   10%
  • Initiate credit applications for new and existing customers by completing the documentation with customers, completing the required financial analysis and submitting applications to Retail credit for approval.
  • Collect securities documentation from customers ensuring that the securities meet Barclays standards and any specific requirements depending on the facilities offered to the customer.
  • Check all such documentation before submitting to the back office.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  
  • The applicant must possess at least an Advanced Level certificate or equivalent with good pass in Mathematics and English.
  • At least a year's experience in a front-line banking sales/marketing/service environment
  • Excellent planning & organisation skills
  • Banking product sales experience is preferred but not required.
  • A good first degree in Banking or Commerce is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good questioning skills

  • Good numeracy & analytical skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the bank's internal departments, systems & procedures as well as risk & rigour requirements
  • Past experience in dealing with local business loan applications.
  • Detailed understanding of competitor products and services in the SME segment.
